Beginner Tutorial.
Using photoshop to create glowing text.
Have you ever seen text with a glowing background. It is a simple effect that this tutorial will show you how do. Lets get glowing!

Start by creating a new image,
Width 800 pix.
Height 600 pix
Resolution 72 pix/inch
Mode RGB Color.
Contents Background Color. (black)
Click View> Rulers Ctrl-R



If your background color is not black do it now.
Set the Foreground color to white and background color to black in the color pallet.
Hit D then X on the keyboard.
Select the Text tool and set your text size to 72.
Use whatever font you like.

Be sure the font color is white.
Type LAW &.
From the menu Select Layer > Rasterize > Type .
Select the move tool from the toolbar or (hit V).
Grab the new rasterized type and center it in the middle.

Select the text tool again (hit T)
Type "ORDER" just below the words "LAW &."
From the menu Select Layer > Rasterize > Type .
Select the move tool from the toolbar or (hit V).
Grab the new rasterized type and center it in the middle below the original type.
Now you should have three layers in the layers pallet.
Black background, white "LAW &" text, white "ORDER" text.

Create a copy of the "LAW &" layer in the layers pallet by dragging it down to the new layer icon at the bottom of the layer pallet.
Be sure your colors are black and white.( Hit D then X on the keyboard.)
Now select the original "LAW &" layer with the mouse.
Then hit Ctrl-left mouse click on the layer to put a highlighted selection around it.
Hit Ctrl-Backspace to fill the selected text to black.
Now don't panic if you don't see the change to black.
The layer is under the white "LAW & copy". (if you have to check, hide the copied layer by clicking the visibility eye on the copied layer).

Deselect the text by hitting Ctrl-D.
Make sure all layers are visible. (if you hid any layers from the last step).
Change the foreground and background colors of the color pallet.
White Forground and Blue Background.

Now with the original "LAW &" Layer selected.
From the menu.
Layer > Layer Style > Outer Glow..
Set the setting as seen in the image.
I set spread and size to 7. you can adjust this to your liking.
Do the next step before accepting all the settings.

Click on the gradient to edit it.
Select the first gradient called Foreground to Background.
(this is why you changed the colors to white and blue).
Click OK.
